Jyoti Shines A Light: Sabrina Perrino

Have you ever been in the company of someone and felt a tremendous wave of soothing energy? If you haven’t, we highly encourage you to attend one of Sabrina’s classes. Sabrina Perrino is an inspirational yoga teacher and poet. Her presence exudes such light and acceptance that it is impossible to feel anything but joy when you share space with her. As with all our teachers, we are so blessed and honored to share her gifts with our Jyoti community.

Sabrina currently teaches Tuesday and Thursday evenings. In addition, she is certified in dharma wheel yoga which you will see on the Jyoti schedule from time to time. Lastly, Sabrina is esteemed for her monthly sound-healing class (which is an experience you do not want to miss!). Her classes fill up quickly, so be sure to preregister to hold your spot and practice with Sabrina!

In the meantime, here’s a bit more about her…

What made you fall in love with taking care of your body?

Yoga is honestly what made me fall in love with taking care of my body. It was the gateway to my health and wellness journey. Once yoga became a central part of my life, I began wanting to eat a healthier diet, meditate, and heal myself from the inside out. Yoga is the gift that keeps on giving because it is not only essential in maintaining good physical health, but also good mental health. I feel so great mentally, physically, and spiritually after I take a yoga class.

What does self-care mean to you?

You cannot pour from an empty glass. If we want to help others and the world at large, we must first help ourselves. I have also learned that the journey to inner peace doesnt always have a set destination. Life will continually throw you curveballs, great moments of happiness, and moments of sadness as well – this is the yin and yang of life. Inner peace is finding the calm in the storm, but also, we are human beings, and we should allow ourselves to feel the full spectrum of emotions. Feel it all to heal it all. I believe that self-care is anything that helps you keep that steadiness in the storms of your life. It could be anything from practicing yoga to creating art, or journaling. There are many different outlets for self-care and its a beautiful thing when you find several different kinds that suit you.

What inspires you most?

Nature has served as a great source of inspiration for me in both creating my themed yoga classes and writing my poetry. I love going for walks and watching the changing pastel colors of the sunset, relaxing at the beach, and camping. Nature is so healing and inspiring to me. My yoga practice also gets the creative juices flowing for me. Nature and yoga are what inspire me the most!

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

There is a video online called “Everybody’s Free to Wear Sunscreen”. It is a speech given by Baz Luhrmann at a college. That video has quite a bit of good advice within it. Also, although this is not technically advice, the book, “To Know Yourself” by Swami Satchidananda is a beautifully written book that I feel I have gained a lot from reading. My own advice is to never stop learning and never stop wanting to learn. Not only will it make you wise, but it will also keep life so interesting.

How do you ignite your inner light?

Practicing yoga ignites my inner light. Although I am a yoga teacher, I will never stop being a student of yoga as well. Writing, spending time in nature, and self-care – whatever that may look like on any given day.
